Executive Order on Preserving Tennessee's Economic Autonomy and Human Interaction
By the Authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Tennessee, I hereby order the following measures to ensure the preservation of our state's economic autonomy and the enhancement of human interaction in commerce:
1. Ensuring Currency Exchange:
There shall be established mechanisms for businesses within Tennessee to facilitate the exchange of U.S. Federal Currency with our private citizens and individuals holding City, County, or State positions, whether hired, appointed, or elected. This ensures that all Tennesseans have access to physical currency exchange options.
2. Opposition to a Cashless Society:
Recognizing that a cashless society threatens the fabric and autonomy of any nation or its states, the State of Tennessee hereby formally disapproves of actions or business practices that seek to eliminate cash transactions. We stand firm in our commitment to maintaining the freedom of choice in how our citizens conduct their financial transactions.
3. Ending Unwarranted Checks:
The era of "Show me the Receipt" practices is hereby concluded. Unless individuals are exiting with more than they entered, Tennesseans shall not be subjected to checks at store exits. This practice is reminiscent of oppressive regimes, and its continuation will not be tolerated in the State of Tennessee. Non-compliance with this directive implies a desire by businesses to cease operations within our state.
4. Balancing Automation with Human Interaction:
For every self-checkout station in any retail establishment, there shall be two human-operated cash registers available. This ensures that human-to-human interaction remains a priority, providing personal assistance and maintaining employment opportunities within the state.
Implementation and Compliance:
All businesses operating within the State of Tennessee are required to comply with the directives outlined in this Executive Order. Non-compliance will be met with appropriate measures to ensure adherence to the principles of economic autonomy and human interaction.
This Executive Order affirms Tennessee's commitment to preserving our state's values and ensuring the well-being of our citizens in an ever-evolving economic landscape. Order to be carried out starting May 1, 2027.(Tennessee Law requires a show and tell time)
